The Brazilian government even “held” the authorization for a few days, coincidentally during the period when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was with US President Joe Biden. However, docking was authorized anyway.

The presence of Iranian ships has already led to a statement by Republican Senator Ted Cruz in favor of studying whether it is the case of adopting sanctions against Brazilian entities associated with this episode, such as the Port of Rio de Janeiro and the Brazilian Navy.
